Who We Are
The Children’s Movement of California ® is an ever-growing community of thousands of diverse organizations, from all industries and geographic regions of California and unified to improve the lives of kids, that gets kids prioritized in policymaking.
We achieve this through strategic collective action campaigns that emphatically showcase the widespread support for kids across California and push policymakers to listen to the needs of children and families.
More Than 10 Years of Major Victories for Kids
The Children’s Movement was created to solve a problem. There are more than 93,000 nonprofits in California focused on kids, plus thousands more businesses and organizations who care about kids. That widespread support is strong enough to get policymakers’ attention, but with so many voices, efforts were often disjointed and drowned out by more organized, cohesive groups.
To give kids the power they deserve, The Children’s Movement brings these diverse voices together to speak as one and call for specific, achievable policy asks. Now with organized power built for over a decade, kids’ needs are being heard and given greater priority and we’ve achieved huge wins for kids (and we’re just getting started).
Secured more than $8.1 billion for child care and early learning
Got more than half a million kids and families more-affordable health care by eliminating Medi-Cal premiums
Created (and protected) a 24/7, in-person helpline for kids in foster care and their caregivers
Won historic school equity reform and reduced racial disparities in school discipline policies

Delivered to the Governor and Legislature at strategic moments, these letters emphatically demonstrate the far-reaching and diverse support for those asks and effectively drive leaders to act.
